19-Year-Old Breakaway Horse – Bucky
Bucky has truly been there and done that. Don’t let his age fool you—this horse still has plenty to give. He makes the same run every time. Indoor arenas, large outdoor setups, long scores, short boxes, bright lights truly nothing bothers him. He has never had any box issues and backs into the corner perfectly every time. He breaks to the pin, gets you to the calf quickly, and stops hard.
He knows his job and is easy to ride. Multiple people jump rode Bucky throughout my college rodeo career. He carried me to the College National Finals in 2024, where we finished 4th place overall.
Bucky isn’t without his quirks. Around the trailer, he can hang back if you’re moving too fast or if something spooks him. He can also be cold backed and fresh after extended time off. A quick lope up a hill or a few circles in the arena and he settles right down. He is not mean and does not buck, but he may crow hop or be a little tense at times.
I’m selling him due to no fault of his own I simply just don’t have the time to use him like I used to. I want him to go to a good home where he can take care of another young roper. A good home is a must! He does best on a ranch where he can be turned out at times. He hauls great, but he doesn’t do well when he stalled up 24/7.
Bucky would fit anyone from a beginner to college age that is looking for a consistent horse to go win on. I learned to breakaway off of Bucky when I was 14 years old. He just needs a confident rider and he’ll take care of the rest.
For maintenance, I have had his hocks injected three times over the last five years. Other than that, he has been incredibly healthy and sound. I truly believe this horse has many good years left and could easily continue competing for years to come. I would keep him if I had more time to rope, he has just unfortunately been put on the back burner and I hate to see him sit!
Text or call me for more information I have lots of videos!
