I'm in my 40s, and one of the hardest things I've had to accept is that I've never really had a family I could lean on. My family has disowned me because of my sexual orientation and because they don't accept the fact that I have Black friends. Losing the people who were supposed to love me unconditionally has been one of the most painful experiences of my life.

Today, I'm fighting for my life in more ways than one. I'm in recovery from addiction, and I'm also living with stage 3 brain cancer. Some days are incredibly difficult, but I haven't given up. I still believe there's hope for a better life.

I'm not looking for anyone to legally adopt me or rescue me. What I'm hoping for is something much simpler: a family by choice. People who will give me a chance, see me for who I am instead of my past, and remind me that I matter. I have a vehicle, I'm willing to work hard, and I want to build a life I can be proud of.

I was raised LDS, and my faith is still important to me. I haven't been able to attend church or be involved the way I'd like, but I miss having that sense of community and the opportunity to serve the Lord. I want to grow spiritually, help others, and surround myself with people who believe that everyone deserves compassion and a second chance.

I'm not asking for money or handouts. I'm asking if there are people out there who believe family isn't always defined by blood. If you've built your own family through kindness, friendship, faith, or community, I'd love to hear your story. And if you're someone who believes in giving people a second chance, I'd be grateful just to know there are still people like that in this world.
