Healthy Belgian mare. 18-20 years old. 17.3-18 hands, 2000 pounds. Broke to ride and drive. Super gentle and affectionate. Totally sound. Been barefoot her whole life. Does ok with the farrier for trims, a little stubborn on rear feet but not bad. Maiden mare as far as we know, cycled twice this summer(that I noticed). She was purely a pulling horse when we got her. We use her only to ride. She’s safe and pretty responsive under saddle for a driving horse. Doesn’t know much but we love riding her. She does not neck rein. Direct rein only. she'll back up all day long. Pretty smooth trot and a nice enough lope. She'd be a perfect "first draft" horse. Easy to handle, easy keeper, loves attention. She is very rangy in that she'll eat anything and does fine without any supplements or maintenance. More whoa than go. We ride her about once a week so she's not in super shape. Her biggest "problems' are that she's a bit buddy sour, doesn't always stand still for mounting, and stubborn with her back feet. She's traffic safe, loves trails, and works in the arena too. Again, not fancy trained but safe and fun to ride. She loads into the trailer with ease. She's fine with clippers and fly spray. not bothered by dogs, bikes, skateboards, motorcycles, or screaming kids. Beginners can ride her safely but recommend intermediate rider to get her to the next level. No horse is truly bombproof but she is very level headed with loads of personality.
