ApplePayLocal Biochar – Help Soil Retain Water During Summer Heat
Locally available biochar for gardens, raised beds, trees, landscaping, pasture, and agricultural applications.
Biochar is a porous, carbon-rich soil amendment that can help improve soil structure, retain moisture and nutrients, and support beneficial soil biology. During peak summer heat, biochar can help keep more irrigation water in the root zone and improve the soil’s long-term ability to manage moisture.
Biochar does not replace regular watering, but it can help make the water you apply more effective.
Available quantities:
• 7 gallons. • 14 gallons. • 25 gallons. • 45 gallons. • 1 cubic yard
• 2-cubic-yard super sacks. • Bulk and farm-scale quantities
How to apply during summer:
Biochar works best when blended with compost, aged manure, fertilizer, or another nutrient-rich material before application.
For established gardens, trees, and landscaping:
• Mix biochar with compost or soil amendment
• Spread the mixture around the active root zone
• Lightly incorporate it into the upper soil where practical
• Cover the area with mulch
• Water thoroughly after application
For trees and shrubs, keep the material away from direct contact with the trunk. Avoid deep digging or major root disturbance during extreme heat.
Suitable for:
• Vegetable gardens and raised beds
• Trees, shrubs, and perennial plantings
• Lawns and landscaping
• Compost and soil blends
• Pastures and agricultural fields
• Farm, nursery, and municipal projects
Biochar is a long-lasting soil amendment. Its benefits keep improving over time as it becomes integrated with soil, nutrients, moisture, and soil biology.
Pickup available in Salt Lake (by the Zoo) and Provo. Delivery and larger-volume pricing may be available for a fee.
