VenmoI am looking for a very special home for Boots, my mom’s beloved cat. Boots was my mom’s buddy and companion and brought her so much comfort and joy. Because of that, finding the right home for him is much more important to me than simply finding him a home.
Boots would be an especially wonderful companion for an older couple or single adult who is home much of the time and would enjoy having a devoted little buddy around. Other situations could certainly work as well, but he really craves being with his person or people and getting plenty of love and attention. He would not be happy in a home where everyone is gone most of the day.
Boots is a snuggler and a wonderful lap cat. He loves being close to his person and will happily settle into your lap for attention and companionship. At bedtime, he will want to sleep with you, too. Being close to his person is simply part of who he is.
This is important to understand before considering Boots: he is not a cat who will be happy being shut out of the bedroom at night. If there is a closed door separating him from his person, he will yowl and let you know that he wants to be with you. His ideal person will genuinely enjoy having a very affectionate, involved companion who wants to share both their days and their nights.
Boots is also quite the conversationalist! He is very vocal about his wants and needs and isn't shy about telling you what he thinks. If frequent meowing is something you find annoying or unwelcome, Boots would not be the right cat for you.
Boots is front declawed, but he has always been allowed outside during the daytime and needs a home where he can continue doing that safely. He does not like being locked outside, so a cat or small-dog door is a must. He is accustomed to coming and going freely during the day and then being safely inside with the pet door locked at night.
At my mom's home, his cat door was installed in a piece of plexiglass fitted into a window opening rather than through a door or wall. He had a special ramp that allowed him to safely get up to and through the window. We still have both the plexiglass cat-door setup and his ramp, and they can go with Boots if that type of arrangement would work in his new home.
His transition to a new home will require patience. To help him learn that his new home is home and keep him from trying to return to familiar surroundings, he will need to be kept completely indoors for at least the first two weeks before being allowed outside to explore.
During that adjustment period, Boots will almost certainly be antsy and will frequently and vocally let you know that he wants to go outside. His new person will need to be patient, understanding and willing to stick with him through that transition. If that isn't something you feel you can provide, please don't consider adopting him. I want his next move to be his last.
Boots is litter-box trained but strongly prefers to do his business outside. Once he is settled and able to go outdoors during the day, he takes care of almost everything outside and rarely uses his litter box overnight, so litter-box cleaning is rarely needed.
Boots is territorial with other cats, so a home where he is the only cat would be best. He does well with small dogs that are friendly with cats. He has not been around large dogs, so I can't say for certain how he would do with one.
Boots will come with everything needed to make his transition as easy as possible:
- Carrier\
- Litter box and liners\
- Food bowls and waterer\
- Toys\
- Cat tower\
- Window cat-door setup and ramp, if suitable for the new home\
- His favorite chair, if wanted ❤️
There is no rush to place Boots, and I will be selective about his new home. He was very loved by my mom, and I want to make sure his next home is one where he will be just as loved, wanted and cared for.
A loving, attentive home where Boots can truly be someone's companion is an absolute must.
