ZelleI purchased this Harley Davidson XLH Ironhead Sportster in parts a few years back and got it running last winter. Basically went through every nut and bolt in the chassis with lots of new hardware where needed. Lots of new parts and rebuilt components, and completely rewired. It has the sweet Mag Wheels which are in great shape. I’ve got about 400 miles on it since putting it together and it is running great. Just needs some fine tuning and finishing personal touches.
New Tires/Tubes Front and Rear and New Chain
New Wiring front to back including all Switches
New Starter, Battery and Points/Ignition Timing
New SS Super E Type Carb (knock-off I’ve ran on several bikes)
New Rear Swing-Arm Pivot Assembly
New Brake Pads/ Shoes front/rear
All new Brake Lines and Manifold
Rebuilt front Brake Caliper and later model HD Master Cylinder/Levers
Rebuilt Shocks
Custom Z-bars and nice low profile Le Pera Seat
About the only thing I did not go through is the clutch which seems to be working great. I did pull the heads and cylinders as shown in the pics. The pistons are .10 over so lots of room for a top end rebuild when needed. Light hone and the new rings seem to have set in well as it does not smoke at all. Leaks a little (of course), but less than any of the five Ironheads I have owned!
I was hoping to keep this one myself or put the engine in my chopper, but circumstances have changed. No Signals (use your hands) and no Horn (plenty loud)...
