Candy — Looking for Her Forever Home
Star from a Good Bar (aka “Candy”) is AQHA papered and special 23-year-old mare who has spent years giving her people her whole heart. Now, she’s ready for someone who will give her the soft landing and peaceful retirement she deserves.
She is best suited for leading the grandkids around the yard and the young kids walkinf and trotting with her, learning how to be around a horse.
Candy has AQHA halter points and a lifetime of experiences behind her. She was our daughter’s first horse, and together they made some incredible memories. In their very first year, they placed 5th out of 20 kids, and Candy also took 4th at the State 4-H Show in Showmanship. She still had plenty of speed when she was feeling good, too.
But more than her accomplishments, Candy is just a genuinely good mare. She is incredibly sweet, has wonderful people awareness, and has always been trustworthy around our family. I trust my babies around her, and that means more to me than any ribbon ever could. She has never put anyone around her at risk.
We’ve taken her on lots of mountain rides and hunting trips, and she has seen and done so much. She’s easy to get along with and wants nothing more than to please you. She can have some anxiety when asked to do something, but she is thoughtful, aware, and tries her best.
At this stage of her life, Candy is past her prime and looking for a retirement home where she can be loved and appreciated as a pasture ornament and companion. She deserves someone who sees the value in an older horse who has already given so much.
She does require some maintenance. Her front feet need to be trimmed every 6–8 weeks and she requires shoes on the front. If her feet are allowed to go too long, she can become lame. When being used regularly, she currently requires Predef, given as an IM injection, along with her regular farrier care. She would be best suited to someone who understands and is willing to stay on top of her maintenance.
Candy may not be the young, competitive horse she once was, but she has years of love, loyalty, experience, and memories left to give. We are hoping to find the person who will make her golden years just as special as she made our daughter’s childhood.
