We are looking for a loving home for our 8-month-old intact male Australian Shepherd. He is an incredibly sweet, affectionate dog with our family. He has been wonderful with our baby and loves attention, playing, and being around his people. He is smart, energetic, and loves to be outside with us riding horses in the mountains. He also loves cuddling.

As he has entered adolescence, he has developed some territorial/protective behaviors that we don't feel we are the right household to manage at this time.

He does not get along well with intact male dogs. He gets very aggressive and territorial towards them. He’s been completely fine with other neutered males and any female.

He also had an incident with a 7-year-old child that entered our yard and approached his dog run, putting his hand inside. Our dog was already barking and alert because someone had entered the yard, and he became very aggressive toward the child. He did not bite him, but he growled, nipped, and behaved as though he may bite. He was friendly with the other family members and children present.

Because of these incidents, we are looking for a home that does not have young children and preferably has someone experienced with Australian Shepherds, adolescent dogs, or dogs with territorial/reactive behaviors. He has never had any problems when introduced to teens to other adults. Can be a little timid at first. He can also be a little timid around new dogs as well.

We are not rehoming him because we don't love him. We simply have a young baby, live near an elementary school, and don't feel that our current situation is the best environment for him.

We want to find him a home where he can thrive and where his new owner fully understands his behavior and can give him the structure, training, and attention he deserves.
