KSL Classifieds launches Verified Profiles to boost community transparency

Buying and selling online is definitely convenient. Using KSL Classifieds to do that is even more so, because you’re sharing with our local community. Now, to build trust on KSL Classifieds and make our online marketplace even better, we’ve introduced Verified Profiles. When you complete your online profile, you’re helping both buyers and sellers feel more confident in their transactions.

Why Verified Profiles matter

A Verified Profile means that your identity has been confirmed. Congratulations, you’re a real person! We’ve partnered with Stripe Verified to offer this feature because we want to promote a positive shopping experience for everyone. 

Once you’ve been verified, all of your listings will include a green check mark. When other users see this symbol, they can feel more comfortable knowing they’re talking to a community member.

This feature can help us all cut down on fraud, whether it be perpetrated by robocalls or human fraudsters. When you see the check on a listing, you can feel more confident that the seller isn’t offering a non-existent grand piano.

Benefits of a strong, verified community

With any online sales transaction, we all need to be vigilant to avoid scams on KSL. No one wants to be tricked into buying a pretend patio set. But when you see a seller with a Verified Profile, you’ll have an extra measure of assurance.

Scammers try to deceive sellers, too. For example, they may overpay you — in advance — then ask you to pay them back the overage. But they didn’t really send any money in the first place. But when everyone has a Verified Profile, these tricksters won’t be able to pull the Tuscan 100% wool rug over your eyes. You’ll skip right over their message and wait for a real buyer.

How profile verification works

When a person taps the Verified Profile button on the profile page, they’ll be asked to submit a picture of their valid driver’s license. Then they’ll need to take a series of selfies to show that they are the same person on that ID.

When you see a person has a Verified check mark, you can feel more confident that it’s a legitimate person. Of course, you should continue to be diligent. If you suspect someone is falsely representing themselves, contact our support@ksl.com.
