Use your stash to make some cash: 10 more things to list for rent
Discussed in this article
Winning the lottery? Iffy. Making money when you rent your toys and tools on KSL Classifieds? Yessiree! Quickly list all your items For Rent, and you and your seldom-used gear will both be living your best life.
1. House equipment
When your HVAC wasn’t working last summer, your portable air conditioner saved the day. When your basement flooded, your shop vac swooped in to the rescue. And while you might not need your temporary best friends right now, you don’t want to move on completely. So until that next emergency arises, let them share someone else’s burden.
2. Costumes
Love themed costume events? Don’t love stowing your epic ensemble in an overstuffed closet? Rent your duds to other fun-loving folks. Flynn Rider and Rapunzel garb? You’ll be someone’s costume match made in heaven. Bob Ross getup? Share your happy (not so) little wig. Rent your formal dresses for dances or dress-up.
3. Bounce house
Owning a bounce house can be super fun, but even super fans won’t use it every day. Instead of tucking that behemoth into the corner of your garage, offer it for rent. There are plenty of other kids who would love to jump and jump … and jump. Rent it for birthday parties, school parties, bachelorette parties. Actually, maybe you should rename it a party house.
4. Serving dishes
There is no shortage of family events in Utah, from wedding receptions to reunions, farewells to homecomings. And there’s always oodles of food to go with them. While they fill their bellies, you can fill your pockets. List your large platters, roaster, tiered stands or chafing dish for the big day.
5. Yard tools
Large yard tools — rototillers, chain saws, power washers and leaf blowers — are only used a few times per year, so not everyone is willing to make the investment. Make some cash back on yours, by renting your power yard tools on all those other days.
6. Bicycles
Utah is a mecca for biking enthusiasts, with nearly 700 mountain bike trails alone. Help others get out there and enjoy the view up close and personal on your electric, road or trail bicycle.
7. Small watercraft
Much as you’d like to make it to the lake every weekend, other obligations take precedence sometimes. While you nibble on eclairs at your niece’s reception, someone else can dip their toes in the water with your paddleboard. Instead of letting your canoe or kayak gather dust and soccer balls in the shed, rent it to fellow expeditioners. Don’t forget the life jackets!
8. Trailer
Of course, people may need a way to transport your outdoor gear. Rent your utility trailer and truck to go with it. Tow-tally awesome.
9. Games
Have a slew of board or video games filling your closet shelves? A cornhole set or jumbo lawn game taking up your patio? Or table tennis or foosball table cramping your garage? Guarantee a financial win for yourself every time you rent your fun stuff.
10. Karaoke machine
There are gamers and there are performers. For the latter, you can’t go wrong with a night of Karaoke. Rent your machine and let the embarrassment begin. Do you have a disco ball to go with it? Oh yeah.
