For adoptable pets in Utah, waiting to find their fur-ever home may feel like an eternity. But that wait can end on Saturday, July 19, thanks to a free pet adoption event sponsored by KSL Classifieds in partnership with the Humane Society of Utah. We will be covering adoption fees for cats and dogs aged four months and older, guinea pigs and bunnies to make the process easier for both you and your future buddy.

All about the pet adoption event

Need a four-legged hiking buddy? Or a cuddly couch kitty while you work from home? Pet adoption fees can be a barrier for some people wanting or needing a companion. By removing that cost, we hope to see some deserving animals and families create lifelong bonds and silly memories.

Head to the Humane Society’s Murray Adoption Center to shake paws with some of the cutest, most eligible adoptable pets.

KSL’s pets — Jason and Duke

We’ve got a Humane Society story of our own. Jason Davies, senior software engineer, shares his story of adopting a sweet, little, black dog from the Humane Society of Utah.

Duke had some medical issues, but Jason appreciated how clear folks at the Humane Society were during his family’s search for a pet.

“The Humane Society was awesome to deal with and very transparent. We saw Duke on their site and called to see if he was still available for us to go see him. We packed up the kids and headed down to give him a visit. He easily got along with everyone, as I think many puppies do, so we decided to make him part of the family,” Jason said.

With puppy eyes like those, no wonder they wanted him! “Duke is super smart, he very easily learned to ring a bell to go outside for the bathroom. He was very good with his crate training and only whined when going to bed. He has become a bed hog now so we have him sleep in the kids’ room on occasion,” Jason said.

It seems Duke is adapting to family life quite well. Jason added, “He’s 9 months old now, and he’s still a hungry puppy and gets super excited to eat. We ask him if he wants food and he runs right to the pantry and paws at his big bag of food, just in case we forgot where it was.”
