Over 100 pets find homes during KSL Classifieds Free Adoption Week
Discussed in this article
For one week in May, the public was invited to adopt a pet from the Humane Society of Utah at no cost. KSL Classifieds sponsored the event, picking up the fees as part of its effort to encourage pet adoptions. In just seven days, 139 pets found new homes, an 18.8% increase for the month. That included 76 cuddly cats and 55 delightful dogs, as well as five bouncing bunnies, two charming chinchillas and one grand guinea pig.

Perfect timing
“We’re immensely grateful for KSL's commitment to helping the homeless pets of Utah,” said Shannon Egan, interim development director for the Humane Society of Utah. Due to recent inflation, shelters across the state are at near capacity, she said. Because adoptions were entirely free for the week, families had the chance to get a new furry friend without the financial barrier.
“We were absolutely thrilled that so many animals were able to find new homes through this event,” said Machaela Pulsipher, marketing specialist. “We've been working hard to make KSL Classifieds a safer place for pets in our community and to make it easier for homeless animals to find homes. This event was such a wonderful realization of those efforts.”
Listing fee helps animals
Last fall, KSL Classifieds instituted a pet listing fee, a portion of which funded Free Pet Adoption Week and will go toward future events. It’s part of a concerted effort to protect the animal community and encourage others to get involved, too.

Pet partnership
“We are extremely proud of our new partnership with the Humane Society of Utah, an institution that tirelessly works toward providing sheltered animals with opportunities to meet their new families,” said Taylor Holman, KSL Classifieds senior product manager. “With immense gratitude for their diligent efforts, we’re delighted to pledge our first donation, contributed from our listing fee revenue.”

More events to come
The adoption event was just the first of many efforts KSL Classifieds will help with to promote the welfare of the animals. “We are so grateful for the opportunity to work with the Humane Society of Utah to make a difference,” Pulsipher said. “This event was a great success and we look forward to future opportunities to sponsor events and organizations in the effort to help homeless animals.”
Holman added, “At KSL, we see this as a communitywide endeavor, as we all work to provide a safe environment for pets to find their loving homes.”

Adopt now!
Although the event is officially over, you’re welcome to adopt from the HSU anytime. The Murray Adoption Center is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. See what animals are currently available there on KSL Classifieds — the list is updated daily.
In fact, you can find adoptable animals from many shelters and rescues on KSL Classifieds Petfinder listings. Qualifying animal welfare organizations may enroll in the free service, where all of their adoption listings are automatically added to the site each day. Future adopters can see pictures, read descriptions and anything else relevant. Learn more about KSL Classifieds Petfinder Integration for Shelters & Rescues here.
