From Verl Woodbury "I'm trying something different by actually creating an event for our Tuesday Academy Chat (a first for me). Let's see how it goes.
This time our topic will be Permaculture. I know we've discussed this before, but I see a growing interest in it. There are different thoughts and opinions on permaculture, and I think it's a good idea to learn all we can about it before we decide how to go for it.
I recently made the acquaintance of Denise Devynck of Utah Valley Permaculture: https://www.permaculturedesignschool.org/
I know several of our shareholders and group members are interested in their approach, which is how I learned about it.
Denise has offered to attend our next Tuesday night Chat (May 17, 8:30 pm) and explain her work with permaculture and how her organization trains and mentors people in her methods. More than just talking about it, she and others have developed a veritable Food Forest in Orem, Utah, where she relies on volunteers and students to help maintain it. I will be going there Monday afternoon to help out and see what all the fuss is about. :)
I think this will be a valuable experience for anyone who attends. In case the link to the event isn't clear, below is the Zoom info you'll need to attend.

Meeting ID: 940 4384 4659
Passcode: 777
One final thing, Denise usually charges for giving this kind of a workshop, but she is very interested in OSR (and has hinted she might even join), so she is doing this gratis. However, if you would like to give a donation for her doing this, please contact me via Messenger and we'll work out how to make sure she gets it. However, and I emphasize, please attend whether or not you give a donation. "
FYI Matthew Layton was a wonderful student the second year of putting in the Classroom Food Forest and has been a generous supporter and participant ever since. You have one if the most trustworthy and compassionate neighbor in Matthew. He is there at every Perma Blitz every year, helping put in one of Student's designs on their property and the best example of Community Building which is very important in an intentional community. If you would like to learn what our 9 month Design Course entails go to our Website www.permaculturedesignschool.org under Course Description tab. Our Facebook group Utah Valley Permaculture Classroom Gardens & Greenhouse under Featured tab has 166 examples of low rain, desert successful restoration and self sustainable systems around the world. Updates, workshops, and education posted daily. If you would like an educational tour of the Demo Gardens schedule 801-808-4424 $25 donation to keep school going. Drought resistant trees, Berry Bushes and plants for sale.
