Specialized had 3 models in its MTB line-up through the 90s (apart from the S-Works range). The top of the line StumpJumpers, designed for professional off-road riding, featured lightweight frames and high-end components. Introduced in 1981 the Stumpjumper was the world's first mass-produced mountain bike. RockHoppers were the mid-level, trail-oriented models with medium grade tubing and mid-range build kit. HardRocks were at the bottom of the line-up, geared towards recreational use. With an upright and relaxed geometry.
