A bulb syringe can help a puppy begin breathing- squeeze the fat end, place the thin end into the puppy’s mouth or nose, then release the fat end to create a suction effect, clearing out amniotic fluid.

Cord clamps and stainless steel scissors can be used to help a mother dog as she is birthing (especially first time mothers who may not know to chew the cord or moms of a large litter). Close the clamp on the umbilical cord 1-2 inches away from the puppy’s belly and cut with the scissors.
