Grover tuners Trapeze Tailpiece 1 5/8" Nut Width 24 1/2" Scale Length Includes Non-Original Hard Case
VERY Rare fret marker pattern (Non-Four dot @ 1,3,5,7,9)
1967 or 1968 (No serial number in chamber)
Original vintage c 1967-69 Kustom K-200 in gorgeous, and rare Brownburst finish. These k-200’s are pretty rare, made only in 67-69 by Bud Ross. They have become real treasures for collectors and players alike.
Combining the best features of a gretsch duo sonic, fender telecaster thinline, and rickenbacker 360, This one features twin Dearmond Rowe single coil pickups; something between a dynasonic and a fender Coronado p90, and some nice vintage player mods, including the trapeze tailpiece, and Grover deluxe tuners.
Cosmetically, she’s very nice, with lots of expected patina, mojo, aged finish and play wear that you would expect for a 55 year old guitar. An absolutely perfect vintage player. She comes with a non-original hard case as pictured. This is honestly one of the best playing guitars I’ve ever played. It’s so smooth and fast Enjoy!
The History of Kustom Guitars.......................................................................
Kustom only made guitars for a short while. Bud Ross was the inventor of the Kustom solid state amp. He was a young player in the 50's and wanted a better amp than the tube amps available at the time. They would get hot and blow up. He found ways to teach himself the skills and made himself an amp to gig with. His amps would play loud and did not blow up. Friends and listeners soon wanted one and he made others. Soon, he decided to make a business out of it. Chanute, Kansas became home and production of speaker cabinets and amps began. All were in the 50's inspired tuck and roll Naugahyde covering in Black and 6 other sparkle colors. Black far and away was the most popular. Kustom was very successful and Bud began expanding into other musical instruments, guitars, organs, drums, and “The Bag” a half voice and half electronic device . Bud hired and brought in Doyle Reading, a high school shop teacher, an accomplished player who made his own guitars to suit his small hands and style. The guitar shop was set up in Chanute in a closed car dealership showroom and anyone walking by could watch the whole process thru the large windows. The guitars were very popular and soon Bud was wanting Doyle to increase production from the 200/month they had achieved. But Bud wouldn't pay for any skilled laborors mainly hiring local household mothers (who became very good at their tasks). Reading quit over the production disagreement. The guitar shop dwindeled for a while but then stopped and discontinued the operation. It is guessed that maybe 2,000 to 3,000 guitars were produced since no records have since surfaced. All the guitars were K-200 semi-hollow body A,B, or C models with the same body and small differences otherwise. The basses are very similar short scale, semi-hollow body.
