ApplePayRARE Josef Originals statuette of woman with slightly graying hair serenely resting on a stool holding a white cat in her lap. This piece is known as “Grandmother Holding White Kitten” in the Josef Originals Book #2, page 25. She has blue flowers with a tiny sparkly gold center in her hair and on her flowing pink dress with additional pink roses as well. There is one small chip that I always forget is there, and that is the one at the base of her collar near her arm. See photo. There is a second chip that I had to search to find, and it’s on the underside of the top pedal of the rose on her dress. You cannot see it from the front. See photo. There is no crazing and no cracks or repairs. Price is adjusted for the two flaws - otherwise she would list between $250-$4000 depending on how fast we wanted it to sell it. Doll has the 1960-1980 curly cue sticker. Delivery available to a convenient location when in your area for $5.

JOSEF ORIGINALS BRIEF HISTORY. Josef Originals was founded in 1945 by Muriel Joseph in Arcadia, California. She made Lucite jewelry; however, the cost of Lucite started rising during WWII, so she decided to make figurines. When her fiancee, Tom George, returned from WWII, he helped with Muriel’s business and the figurine line was born in 1946. They worked out of their garage and basement & quality over quantity was the company’s focus. The name “Josef” resulted from a printing error of her maiden name “Joseph”. Muriel sold the company to George Good in 1982, though she stayed on as a designer. The production of Joseph Originals continued from 1982 to 1985 before the company was sold to Applause (Southland Corporation). The company was sold again in 2004 to Dakin. The most collectible pieces are those that were made during the ownership of Muriel with a high gloss finish & black eyes. Figurines made between 1960 - 1980 have a black oval sticker stating “Josef’s Originals” with a curly cue and an additional small black sticker reading Japan in script.
