Item description Up for sale is a fabulous 1966 original, pastel portrait by the accomplished American female portraitist Jean Reasoner Plunket. Known nationwide for her children's portraits, she drew Lyndon Johnson's daughters and their children, Franklin Roosevelt's grandchildren, Theodore Roosevelt's great grandchildren, and three generations of General Pattons' descendants. This charming original pastel portrait depicts a young girl named "Beth" as seen low left and is signed low right by Jean Reasoner (Plunket) with the date of August, 1966. A lifelong professional portraitist who specialized in pastel drawings of children she was trained by her mother, father, and other members of a close-knit artist colony in Woodstock, NY — many of whom were students of Abbott Thayer. She became a professional artist at 16, drawing portraits for 50 cents for visitors at Yosemite National Park in California. (For an additional 50 cents, she would include the Half Dome rock formation in the background.) She eventually settled in Washington, DC, in 1943 where she was a much sought after portrait artist on the East Coast and especially in the Washington DC and Virginia area, where she captured the images of scores of children of diplomats, socialites, entertainers, and political elites. Her career spanned nine decades, Condition: Used “The condition of this 1966 children's portrait is fine with only the slightest wear present on the frame and matting.
