This sculpture was inspired by a model from Jamaica. She was studying dance and was tall, light, and agile. The most difficult poses were no problem for her to hold and she had a very alert and intense gaze. Her muscles were defined by years of dance and sports. I felt this coiled crouching power in her and the richness and mysterious that is Africa.
Kraig Varner is a successful and collectible sculptor who distinguishes himself from others by his ability to master a range of sculpting genres from figurative, to contemporary, to portrait work.
