GooglePayUnivega 2x9-Speed Viva Sport Road Bike, Made by Miyata 25" 63.5cm, vintage circa 1983
This bike was manufactured by Miyata, the same company that manufactured the renowned Miyata One Thousand touring bike. It was marketed by Univega, a company founded by Ben Lawee. This bike has been completely refurbished with new wheels with Sun rims and stainless steel spokes, a new 9-speed 11-36 casssette, SR Sakae SX 48/38 alloy crankset, new 9-speed KMC chain, new CST 27" x 1-1/8" tires and tubes with Presta valves, new Microshift Marvo LT rear derailleur, aero brake levers, new dual-pivot side-pull brake calipers, new saddle with central cutout, new alloy micro-adjustable seatpost, bottle cage with new water bottle, and new handlebar tape. The pedals are original alloy racing pedals.
As nearly as I can tell, the lugged frame of this bike has chromoly double-butted main frame tubes, high-tension steel chain and seat stays and a Magnalite fork. Magnalite was Miyata's trademark for manganese-molydenum alloy steel tubing similar to Reynolds 531. The dropouts are stamped steel--not forged. This bike has the only set of shifters, other than modern electronic shifters, that automatically adjust the front derailleur when the rear derailleur is moved. That is why both shifters sit on top of the downtube. When the right shifter is moved, the left shifter moves forward and back about 3/8 inch, which adjusts the front derailleur. This was a very clever idea.
