1985 Toyota 4Runner – The Unicorn Setup (Solid Axle + 22RE EFI) This is the year everyone wants: 1985, the only year with the factory solid front axle paired with the fuel-injected 22RE. I’ve been building and enjoying this rig for about a year, and it’s been my daily driver. It runs great—I just need something that fits the whole family now. The 22RE has 292,294 miles, runs amazingly well, has excellent compression, and doesn’t leak a drop of oil. I’ve taken it all over the west desert with zero issues. Upgrades & Work Done: 3” lift with Bilstein shocks
37” tires
Both axles fully rebuilt with all new bearings, regeared to 5.29
Rear disc brake conversion
Body-built rock sliders
WARN winch
Trail-Gear front bumper
Aluminum radiator with electric fan
New fuel pump and water pump
New battery
And most importantly… the rear window and wiper both work (if you know these 1st gens, you know that’s a big deal!)
I may be forgetting a few things, so feel free to reach out with any questions.
