This is a handmade, hand-carved camel bone chess set. The pieces are intricately detailed. One pawn has a partial knife; all others are complete. I understand it is an antique English Barleycorn pattern chess set. It was popular in the pre-Staunton era of chess from the 19th century. Pieces of this design were commonly carved from bone, which this set is, with the red pieces having been dyed. The board has a glossy, blue playing surface with a copper colored border featuring a geometric pattern.

I believe I purchased the board somewhere in the Middle East. The pieces are from my childhood (I’m 71.) The material is carved camel bone.
