ApplePayI’m rehoming my 10-year-old yellow-collared mini macaw, DNA tested Female. She has a big personality, is very sassy, intelligent, and loves to interact on her terms. She’s a foodie so she loves to sit over her bowl and eat. If you enjoy parrots with attitude and character, she’s the perfect fit.
She does well with a consistent routine, and is predictable with enrichment and treats, and is used to sleeping in a travel carrier at night for easy transportation. She not a quiet bird, so she’ll do best with someone experienced with macaws or medium-to-large parrots. Not loud all the time, but she has a macaw scream that’s ear piercing. Some of the trade offs for having such a beautiful, intelligent bird, they are loud sometimes.
She likes roudy bush and fruit blend as a main diet, then fruit and seeds as treats, she sleeps in a travel carrier at night, as soon as the sun goes down she starts getting loud and will sometimes scream, meaning she wants to be put away for the night. If you put her in her carrier at 8pm, she expects to be let out 12 hours later at 8 am, it’s her little nest, I’ve noticed if give her the travel carrier as 100% her domain where she can be aggressive if she wants, it helps make her more friendly in her main display cage, and she is a lot more quiet, and manageable. She never poops in her carrier, only if left in there too long, she will start kissy noises to let you know she’s awake and is ready to go to her cage in the morning.
I’m focusing more on my small birds (green cheek conures), and I want to find her a home where mini macaws are truly appreciated. She’s got the personality of a large macaw, in a more handleable size. Best of both worlds!
