This is a fantastic fine violin bow made by Katherine Mohr. It is made of pernambuco and stamped Burgette. The bow is stamped #1502 inside of the frog. It has a fresh rehair done at Peter Prier and Sons.
Katherine is the daughter of Rodney Mohr, a renowned bow maker whose bows are highly sought throughout the world and have won numerous competitions. Katherine makes her bows in Ohio alongside Rodney, and has built a stellar reputation for her own work. The bows stamped “Burgette” like this one have a frog that she orders from Germany and then carves to fit the sticks she makes (the bows stamped with her name simply have a frog she makes personally and have a Parisian eye). Burgette bows usually sell for $3,000 or more.
When I originally purchased this bow, I felt it played better than much higher priced bows, including some of her own. This bow draws a clean and deep sound. It is particularly nice in softer and piano sounds.
