ZelleThis 1998 4 Door Cherokee XJ has been built Right! Lots of goodies – 4.0 inline 6, NP-231 transfer case w slip-yoke eliminator / Front & rear lockers / 4:88’s / A/C, power steering, locks, windows, tilt-steering & much more! I bought it after an almost complete rebuild when it had 184,247 miles. My wife & I used it as an Overlanding rig. The previous owner did all the following work just before selling it. He completely rebuilt both axles, added an Artec Truss to the front axle for strength & rigidity (see Pics). Following is a partial list of what he did before I bought it:
Rubicon Express Super-Flex 4.5” Lift, Rubicon Sway Bar disconnects, 4 Bilstein 5100 shocks, Rubicon adjustable track bar, Rubicon Transfer case lowering kit, Upper control arm Currie Johnny joints, 4 stainless braided brake lines, Rusty’s Offroad Steering Box brace, New upper & lower ball joints, New Draglink & ends, New steering box.
Front axle Mods: Fully trussed axle tubes & Outer C gussets, Yukon Master Overhaul kit included all seals, bearing & hardware, new Yukon 4:88 gears & axles, Spartan Locking differential, Yukon Front 4340 chrome-moly axle kit, Terra-Flex HD Differential cover.
Rear axle Mods: Yukon Master Overhaul kit including all seals, bearings & hardware, new Yukon 4:88 gears & chrome-moly axles, Spartan locking differential.
Exterior & Interior: Bushwacker fender flares, Front grill texture coated black, WeatherTech Floor Mats, new rear hatch struts.
Engine & Tranny: New rear main seal, new oil pan gasket, new engine & transmission mounts, new alternator, new O2 sensors, new water pump, new transmission pan gasket & filter, new front brake pads plus other misc. things.
Since buying it, I’ve put a little less than 7,000 miles on it, and spent another $4K + on the following Mods & additions:
New driveshafts with Double Cardan U-joints. New Advance Adaptor slip-yoke Eliminator including new gears for speedo correction. New Rock-Hard rear bumper with spare tire & High-lift jack carriers. New Front bumper with recovery hooks and towbar points for flat-towing. New XRC-9.5 winch w cover & nylon rope. New U-bolt style rear axle pinion yoke. High-lift jack. Dorman stainless steel exhaust manifold. And to help with the weight of Overlanding gear I installed Hellwig spring helpers. I switched the 33x12.5” Mud-terrain tires to BF Goodrich KO2 33x10.5 All Terrains shortly after getting the car (better choice for Overlanding (IMO). So, they currently have about 6,900 miles on them. When I bought the car it had 184,247 miles, now it has 191,200 miles. I’ve also recently replaced the fuel pump, some fuel lines & the fuel pressure regulator and an idler pully. I noticed a crack in the windshield a few days ago so I had a new one installed 2/6/26. I have the original bumpers and hitch receiver. The bumpers are texture coated black & the front one has LED’s built in. I used a Maggiolina rooftop tent and will sell the car with or w/o the tent (ladder stows inside the tent). The car came with an ARB 73”x49” rack with a lightbar; like the tent, I will also sell it with or w/o the car. My wife & I are both in our 70’s; getting a little old for the rooftop tent (especially w our pets). Rooftop tent would be an additional $500 (they're over $3K new) & the rack would be an additional $200 (1 K new).
