ApplePayRio – 6/7 Year Old Grade Gelding – Solid Minded All-Around Prospect
Rio is a great-minded young gelding with a late start but an exceptional foundation and tons of upside. He’s only been under saddle about a year, but I’ve ridden him consistently 4–5 days a week and put a lot of real-world miles on him.
What Rio knows:
• Moves off your legs well
• Side passes
• Backs up soft
• Trail rides confidently
• Started on barrel & pole patterns
• Tracks and ropes the dummy
• Tracks live cows and has followed steers (haven’t tied one on yet)
• Has good natural speed
Rio has also been the lead horse on pack trips in and out of the Uinta Mountains, so he’s seen terrain, water, wildlife, and real work — not just an arena horse.
He’s got a fun personality in the pasture with plenty of spice, but under saddle he’s level-headed and willing. Gets along great with other horses and geldings.
Great ground manners:
Easy to catch
Loads/unloads like a dream
Stands great for the farrier
Picks up feet well
Easy keeper
I suspect he may have some Poco Bueno breeding in him (white around the eyes and the build/mind to match), but he’s grade.
Rio just needs more time under saddle to turn into a really solid lifetime partner — whether that’s rodeo, ranch work, trail, or all of the above.
This is a young horse with a strong brain, real miles, and a ton of potential.
