ZelleMeet Athena, my Psychiatric Service Dog. Due to my son’s dog-dander allergies, she is seeking a new home. Athena is a 6-year-old Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd mix.
She is trained in deep pressure therapy and emotional redirection during heightened emotional states.
Athena travels exceptionally well. She rides shotgun on car rides—either enjoying fresh air or resting comfortably. Flying is second nature to her, with over a dozen flights completed across the West Coast, Midwest, South, and East Coast. Flight crews consistently compliment her professionalism, often stating:
“We can tell she’s a real service dog—you should see some of the ‘service dogs’ we get on our flights.”
Athena loves fetch with nearly anything—balls, Kongs, sticks, and tug toys—with tug being her favorite. She loves spending time in water and has been on boats, and in lakes and the ocean. She is proficient in bite work and capable of protecting her pack if necessary. A dual-purpose service dog was non-negotiable for me, providing both emotional support and personal protection.
We’ve navigated rough neighborhoods late at night in New Orleans without issue. People kept their distance, and I would not have felt safe in those environments without her.
My preference is for Athena to go to another Veteran . A Veteran-to-Veteran discount will be provided.
