We are looking to rehome our sweet boy, Chester. He is a 7-year-old Shih Tzu/Poodle mix (Shihpoo), and we have had him since the day he was born. He has been such a big part of our family, and this decision has not come easily or lightly. I feel an incredible amount of sadness, guilt, and heartbreak having to do this after so many years with him.
Chester is truly the most loyal, loving, and cuddly dog. He absolutely thrives in a calm environment and is happiest curled up next to you or following you around the house. He is amazing with adults—so friendly, gentle, and affectionate. He is fully potty trained, healthy, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered.
The reason we are making this incredibly difficult decision is because he has not been doing well in our home with our young children (ages 5, 5, and 6) and our other dog. He has been increasingly uncomfortable and has started growling at the kids and our other dog and has been very territorial over me. He has tried to nip at our kids before (out of self defense) when they were rough housing with him. Ever since it happened we are worried it could happen again. He deserves to feel safe and at peace in his home, and right now with such young kids, we’re not able to give him the environment he needs.
We are hoping to find him a home where he can truly thrive—ideally with adults (or older, respectful children) and no other pets. A calm, loving home where he can be someone’s companion and feel secure again. As mentioned earlier, he's such a sweet snuggly and fluffy boy. He's incredibly smart as well.
Please know this is not about giving up on him—this is about doing what’s best for him, even though it hurts so deeply. He deserves a life where he feels completely safe, loved, and understood.
If you or someone you know might be the right fit for Chester, please message me. We will be very thoughtful about where he goes.
Thank you for reading and for helping us find the best possible home for our sweet boy. ️
