Bloom is a smartphone app-blocking system that uses a physical stainless steel NFC card to lock and unlock access to distracting apps and websites either by a scheduling feature or a physical tap of the card to lock and unlock. Unlike standard screen time settings, it provides a tactile ritual to help users "unplug" and reduce doomscrolling. Unlike Block, Bloom proved strong parental controls and is more customizable so you can have some access instead of a complete block.
Key Features
Physical Unlocking: Users choose which apps to block and then tap the physical card against their phone to enter "Focus Mode." These apps remain inaccessible until the card is tapped again.
Scheduled Blocking: You can set specific times (e.g., during dinner or work) for the blocker to activate automatically.
Mindful Breaks: Users can configure one to three 5-minute breaks during a focus session to check blocked apps briefly
I use the scheduling feature more than the physical card. But the card is nice when I I don't want access to certain apps on an outing or vacation and I can leave it at home. I also have a small lock box that runs on a timer I can use.
I love my Bloom for myself and my kids and am only selling the ones my siblings decided they didn't want. Reviews below:
