I am retiring soon and decided to start retiring my train collection. Check back occasionally I will be listing more.
Up for sale. Really cool, prewar, semi-scale 8976-227, switcher locomotive and matching 227B tender. Circa 1938-1942 die-cast locomotive and tender with original paint and lettering in remarkable condition considering it is almost 90 years old. These switchers were unusual in that they had a bell that used a solenoid attached to a hammer that rang a bell in the tender controlled by an on and off switch on the bottom of the tender. Also the 227, designated by the “227” on the boiler front, used a teledyne coupler system. This system used the “whistle” button on the transformer to operate the front coupler on the locomotive and the rear coupler on the tender anywhere on the layout without having to use a remote uncoupler track section. Other numbers on the boiler front designated different locomotive capabilities. The tender also included a rear headlight that lit for helping when backing.
Overall a very nice original pair, seems to be mostly original. The leads from the tender to the loco have been replaced and done as the originals would have been. The paint and lettering are all original. There is a little corrosion to the underside of the tender. The locomotive ran when bench tested, the couplers worked with the whistle button as intended, the bell was weak but did work, the lights worked, and the loco ran and reversed but it took many tries to finally get the E unit to reverse. It is going to need a full service before operating on a regular basis. This is beautiful somewhat rare locomotive in great condition. A great asset to any collection.
Asking $450 or best offer located in Farmington, Utah. Cash on pickup, questions welcome.
Thank you Trevor
