Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.**The Franklin Mint Civil War Chess set from 1983 is a rare and collectible vintage piece that includes a table and checkers set. Made of wood and featuring multi-color pieces, this chess set is a unique addition to any collection of vintage games or toys. Chess
It features 32 pewter portrait sculptures representing Civil War luminaries from the North and South, each an important figure or symbol out of the Civil War. The set includes a tooled leather chessboard that attached to a table that also serves as a storage box/Lid for the pieces. The wooden surround is stained in a dark color, almost black. Each pewter figure is mounted on a pedestal with blue or gray enameled bases with matching colored felt bottoms. The pieces are approximately 3/4" wide by 1-1/2" to 2" tall. The board and surrounding case is approximately 13" wide × 13" long × 2" tall.
Checkers
(stored in a separate wooden display box with a latch)
The set features highly detailed playing pieces made from pewter set on brass bases representing historical figures from the Union and Confederacy, often referred to as the "Blue & Grey" checkers. The checkers themselves are unique because they replace standard discs with specific Civil War personalities and military units. The Union (Blue): Featured figures include: Ulysses S. Grant, William Tecumseh Sherman, George McClellan and Philip Henry Sheridan. The Confederacy (Grey): Featured figures include: Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, James Longstreet and Nathan Bedford Forrest.
The entire set is in excellent overall condition with some exterior wear, light spots of discoloration, marks and scuffs. The pieces are all in excellent condition, NO broken or missing parts.
