The 1917 Perry Hoard

The 1917 Perry Hoard: From 1917 to 2026, over 25,000 Mint State Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars were tubed up by Perry family members into over 1,500 tubes of 20 coins each of primarily Uncirculated Mint State Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars and stored in bank vaults.

Available: 20 Exquisite Ultra Gem 1881-S Morgan Dollars and other much less expensive Antique Silver Dollars for $160-$250.

I have collected additional Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars in Very Fine or better condition and added them to the Perry Hoard which I purchased in 1999.

I offer for $160-$250, some of my amazing more common dates of Uncirculated Mint State Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars from 1877 to 1935 that are up to 150 years old.

BUT Last month, I brought home from one of my banks’ safety deposit boxes, several random tubes of 20 Silver Dollars with the intent to sell them for about $250 each.

Upon opening the tubes, I found exquisite proof like mint state uncirculated 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollars that the San Francisco Mint is famous for.

As I researched that mint’s date, I found that many of these Silver Dollars are numerous but also very valuable.

Coins with numismatic values over $500 wholesale went right back into the bank’s vault.

One tube contained 20 similar Exquisite UnCleaned Brilliant UnCirculated Ultra Gem 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollars with Proof Like Lusters.

About 5 have light golden toning that usually sell for higher prices.

They were probably tubed in 1964 from 1,000 coin bags from the Washington DC Federal Reserve Bank sale when we lived in Washington DC for the summer while dad worked at the Pentagon.

At auction, some of these coins have sold for about $30,000. But Recently, One of the 1881-S Morgan Mint State Silver Dollars sold for $80,000.

I have been advised by the auction company that my stocks of proof like mint state gem coins should sell for similar or substantially more money.

I have submitted some of them for PCGS grading with the intent to have them auctioned.

I may drive back to Florida where I grew up to have thousands of my best Anitque Peace and Morgan Silver Dollars graded at PCGS there and sealed in their plastic cards to prevent Counterfeiting Scammers.

At the same time I can metal detect my favorite spots on the Florida Treasure Coast for shipwrecked Spanish Gold Reales and Silver Doubloons with my modern deep seeking metal detectors.
