CashApp"The iconic stripped Black Beauty that shaped the sound of Ziggy Stardust beyond"
Mick Ronson is a producer, arranger, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and, above all, a deeply influential and underrated guitarist. As an arranger, he has worked with David Bowie, Pure Pleasure League, Ellen Foley, and Roger McGuinn, and contributed arrangements to John Mellencamp's "Jack & Diane." He has also collaborated with former Mott the Hoople vocalist Ian Hunter on four albums, and as a session musician, he has worked with Bob Dylan, Roger Daltrey, and Van Morrison, among others. As a producer, he has worked with Morrissey and Roger McGuinn, as well as many other artists. He also co-produced, arranged the strings, and played piano and guitar on Lou Reed's "Transformer."
He has released five solo studio albums, including Slaughter on 10th Avenue, which reached the Top 10 in the UK. However, he is best known for his collaborations with David Bowie on multiple albums, including The Man Who Sold the World, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Stand the Spiders from Mars, and Aladdin Sane. His guitar playing is dramatic, melodic, aggressive, and articulate, and he crafted his own unique sound through the use of parked wah pedals, fuzz, echo, and other effects. And Mick's 1968 Les Paul Custom, which had its original ebony top finish removed to give it its distinctive look, has since become his iconic guitar.
Now, Gibson Custom is pleased to present the Mick Ronson 1968 Les Paul Custom Collector Edition, a reproduction of Mick Ronson's original 1968 Bowie-era Les Paul Custom. This special limited edition model meticulously recreates the legendary guitar's performance-improved wear and sonic signature, utilizing Murphy Lab's aging technology. It features a mahogany body with a plain maple top and a mahogany neck with an Authentic '68 Medium C-shaped neck profile. The fingerboard is an ebony with 22 medium jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl block inlays. The hardware is finished in aged gold, featuring Grover® tuners, an ABR-1 bridge, and a well-worn StopBar tailpiece. The volume and tone knobs feature a different design, similar to Ronson's Les Paul Custom, and the pickups are unpotted '68 Custom humbuckers with Alnico 2 magnets and no covers, delivering an aggressive tone. The volume and tone controls are hand-wired with CTSR500k Audio taper pots and Black Beauty capacitors.
This model is limited to 100 pieces and has been hand-finished by skilled artisans at the Gibson Custom Shop and Murphy Lab in Nashville, Tennessee. It comes with a custom case featuring an exterior design that reproduces Mick Ronson's signature, a replica strap, and a signed certificate of authenticity.
