Beautiful Danish inspired MidCentury Modern Writing desk. Built by Basset Furniture. Circa 1950s/60s. Perfect size for a bedroom, studio, apartment, small office. This desk looks very similar to Leo Jiranek's Design for Bassett's Artisan collection, circa 1950/60's. Jiranek is one of the top MCM designers of his time. I suspect this may have been the first generation. If you look closely, you'll see the it's got a touch of art deco styling beautifully worked in. Given the age, it's in amazing shape. It has not been refinished. It also did not need repairs. However, it's such a beautiful piece, I have done a few things to assure it's around for another generation or two. As a designer and builder of furniture, I could see where the points of failure would eventually be for this piece. Spots Jiranek later addressed. In a non-destructive, reversible manner I reinforced these areas. Now, eventually will never arrive. It's important they were non-destructive to not affect its long term value. I can honestly say this desk is now sturdier than the day it left the maker's wood shop and will shrug off the coming 70 years. The MidCentury style steam bent walnut ply chair is by West Elm. Pairs up with this desk so nicely I'm listing together. While trying to price I only found only one Basset desk of this period and style that has not sold. It has been destroyed by someone who did not know what they were doing. Instead of the $1,500 the last listed one sold for they're asking $695.00 for a desk that's lost all its collectable value. I'm struggling with the price on this one. I'd like to keep it affordable so it sells locally. Since is acclimated to the arid environment, It's also better for the piece to stay here. What do you think...with the chair you can take this home for 595.00. That's truly an amazing price for these pieces. If this is your style, I suggest you come take a look. It's even prettier in person.
Measurements: 46 wide x 17 3/4 deep x 30 tall
