VenmoFor your consideration. Onyda Prim is a mustang mare from the Muddy Creek HMA in Southern Utah. We got her in 2020 from a friend who had TIP-trained her (halter, lead, trailer load, and stand for a farrier). She is 10 years old, roughly 14.3 hands, and 1,200 lbs. She is currently up to date on shots and just had her teeth floated.
Amazing facts:
-a gloriously thick mane and tail
-hard hooves; we have never had to shoe her
-incredible stamina
-a sweet personality
-responds to a bosal or side pull halter
-rides on roads or trails, across bridges, through water, over fallen trees and is sure-footed (GREAT TRAIL HORSE)
-will lead or follow (prefers to follow)
-walk, trot, canter, back and side pass with subtle cues (we are working on roll backs, and hindquarter turns)
-tolerates motorcycles and side-by-sides
-willingly tried everything we've asked of her
-does well with other horses, is good with dogs, cats, burros, and has met a camel (shares a corral with a gelding and another mare)
***Prim is very responsive to subtle body language cues and learns quickly. She responds best to a patient, consistent, and a clear leader; she is NOT suitable for beginners.
Prim is our daughter’s 1st horse. We insisted on getting her a more seasoned horse based on her lack of experience, but she was determined to keep Prim. They have both grown and learned much over the past 5 years. Our daughter mounts Prim bareback from the ground and hangs out with her in the corral - often reading to her or doing liberty work. Prim comes to our daughter’s whistle. Our daughter is planning on going to college next year, and though it’s been a difficult decision, she doesn’t want her horse to be a pasture pet. This horse needs a job to do.
Last summer and now this summer, we are trying out arena work with her (poles, barrels, keyhole, potato race, water race, and 5 in a row). She is handling it well and could have great potential going that route. We will continue arena riding and taking her out on trail rides until she finds the right home. She could be a great all-around horse in the right hands.
She has some quirks that we are happy to talk about with those who are interested in learning more about her. We are happy to share videos of her upon request.
