As an homage to its heritage I named this fish Mao, because it came in with a promise of peace and equity and instead has created a reign of terror and mass executions in the tank.
On the bright side it is about 3" long and I have never seen anything eat algae more or faster than this fish. It is constantly cleaning: the glass, the plants, the driftwood. It is a hard worker. It would make the supreme leader proud.
At night it unleashes death and hell on its fellow tankmates and is particularly violent towards anything bright and flashy. It has killed over 30 cardinal tetras, male guppies, and a female plecostomus many times its size. Why was it allowed to remain in the tank to massacre at will? It couldn't be caught. Finally out of desperation a minnow trap was purchased and was successful in stopping its murderous rampage.
If you need an algae eater and have a tanlk of African cichlids or any other comparable fish that can defend itself, this is your guy. This could also be your guy if you have a hungry arowana. I don't care. It just needs a new place to live.... or die.
