This is a really awesome entryish level hardtail from REI, i bought it because I thought id be more into trail riding but I've found over time that I am more of a roadie and this bike for me is a little overkill

If you are wanting to check out mountain biking or try a hardtail this is an awesome bike, everything works very well and it's in great shape, its a 3x9 drivetrain , disc brakes, and all the components are in good shape. It is a medium/large frame suitable for anybody 5ft6 probably to like 6ishft

(The bike in the link is a newer model, you can see its a 1x drivetrain and maybe that is what you want maybe it is not, the 1x is (to me) less versatile but more reliable), if you want something a little more balanced what is listed here is more versatile (imo) however there are arguments for either choice)
