Specs: The Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 Genie is a widely acclaimed "entry-level audiophile" turntable, known for its radical, minimalist teardrop shape and the use of high-end design principles usually found in much more expensive decks. While it has been largely superseded by the RPM 1 Carbon, it remains a favorite for its decoupled outboard motor and excellent S-shaped tonearm. Key Features of the RPM 1.3 Genie • Isolated Motor: The motor sits in its own heavy housing, completely physically separate from the main plinth. This prevents motor vibrations from reaching the platter and being picked up by the needle, resulting in a lower noise floor. • S-Shaped Tonearm: It features an 8.6-inch aluminum S-shaped arm with a fixed headshell, providing high rigidity and excellent tracking. The internal wiring uses silver-plated high-purity copper for better signal transparency. • Inverted Bearing: The platter rotates on an inverted stainless steel axle with a polished steel bearing in a bronze housing, which reduces friction and "rumble" compared to standard designs. • Manual Speed Change: Like most Pro-Ject performance decks, changing from 33 to 45 RPM is done manually by moving the silicone belt to a different step on the motor pulley.
