This is a perfect foundation to build a local ai beast on a budget! for the price, you'd have a hard time fighting a better foundation for shoving some GPUs into. (Especially with the current economy) Has room in the case and power on the motherboard for two full GPUs.

This machine is special in the dell rackmounted family. It has a NORMAL WORKSTATION BIOS with enterprise features, so you don't have to deal with the complicated stuff of the poweredge family. THAT MEANS ANY GPUS WILL WORK (that physically fit). NO BIOS LOCKS!! It was designed FROM THE GROUND UP for holding super nice GPUS and workstation level processing.

For a budget AI system I would buy 2x Tesla p100s 16gb (200 bucks total) and the dual 8 pin to EPS power adapter (10 bucks each). That would give you 32GB OF VRAM MACHINE FOR UNDER 500 BUCKS. THAT IS INSANE. Since it's rack mounted it can cool this kind of passive card unlike a normal tower.

Either way, this is a super solid framework for an AI homelab, or just a proxmox/unraid homelab/hypervisor.
