PayPalA Fine French Violin By Francois Breton breveté labeled de S.M.G., Me. la Duchesse d'Angoulème, à Mirecourt 1815. 4/4. Branded on the button Breton. Brand new: Fingerboard, pegs, bridge, sound post, nut, tail piece, stings and end pin. This is ready to play. I will get back to you quickly if you have questions. Will ship in a brand new violin case. Brand new Thomastik Dominant Violin String Set with Pirastro Gold Label E sting.
I was able to look inside the instrument and can report there have been a couple crack repairs to the top that have been professionally repaired and cleated so they wont be an issue in the future. The pegs have been bushed at some point. I can see is that there are some scratches to the outside of the instrument that are almost always to be expected with an old instrument. The neck projection was exactly 27 mm giving the bridge a height of 35 mm ensuring that the string angle is correct and not low like one might see with many vintage instruments that gives this quite a lot of volume like modern instruments. The action at end of fingerboard is 5 mm for the G and 4 mm for the E.
Tonally it has a very boisterous sound throughout the register. It is especially silky in the upper reaches of the bottom strings. The greatest attribute of this violin is its distinctive highly developed sound. This violin really has it. The sound is wonderful, being immediate in response, and very focused. The overtones are rich, brilliant, and simply stunning to listen to. I could not put this violin down when I started playing on it. You will not have to work hard to get the overtones to jump off this instrument especially on the A and E they are incredible. This is not a beginner violin this is for an expert level player IMO. It would make a fine violin for the budding soloist!
