Here's a 2005 Vizio (L32) partnered with a Samsung SIR-T151 (2002) DTV tuner and digital-to-analog converter box. (For more detailed technical specs on these, you'll probably have to hit the "Show More" link below.)
Why together? Because the Vizio has a problem (Electronic? Firmware?) so that it can't use its own DTV tuner, so the Samsung box is providing that function. Mostly I've used the TV as a monitor, playing recorded TV off a Home Theater PC via a VGA cable. The display has also developed a few "shadows" on one part of the screen -- hard to see or fairly obvious depending on the type of scene being displayed. One of the pictures shows a blue screen so you can see the "shadows" more easily.
The Samsung tuner can output DTV (1080i, 720p, 480p) or Analog (480i). It also has no HDMI output, rather using Component Video -- three RCA jacks (Y, Pb, Pr) for output of DTV signal to HDTV-ready TV or analog signal to conventional TV.
Even though it's currently set to 720p output, I don't think the picture looks quite as good as you would get from an HDMI source.
