Cowboy – Dutch Shepherd Mix – Looking for the Right Home
This is a really hard post for me to make because Cowboy is truly a good dog.
I adopted him in February hoping he would become a close companion for my current dog, but over time it’s become clear that their personalities just aren’t the right fit together. Cowboy really loves her, but she hasn’t quite taken to him the way I hoped she would. I want both dogs to have the chance to feel relaxed, comfortable, and happy in their home environment.
Cowboy is believed to be around 18 months old and likely a Dutch Shepherd mix. He’s smart, athletic, affectionate, and very connected to his people. He will slink up next to you and melt into you, he’s the best cuddle buddy.
He loves people of all ages — adults, kids, strangers, everybody. When I first adopted him he was unsure around unfamiliar people, especially men. He has come a long way and warms up much more quickly now. Occasionally he can still be a little cautious when first meeting someone new, but once he realizes things are okay he’s affectionate and friendly.
He also likes other dogs and enjoys being around them.
Cowboy is an awesome adventure companion. He trail runs with me off leash, stays right beside me on sidewalks in the city, and even runs next to my bike through town without being leashed. His recall and attentiveness are very good. That said, he also does well on a leash when needed.
He knows sit and shake, learns quickly, and really wants to be engaged with his person.
He is up to date on his shots and vaccinations and has been cared for consistently through the vet. Cowboy is fixed.
I think Cowboy would do best with someone active who wants a dog to hike, run, explore, and spend time with. He deserves a home where he can fully settle in and be appreciated for the really good dog he is.
This decision is not because Cowboy is a bad dog — honestly, it’s the opposite. I care about him a lot, which is why I want to be thoughtful about finding him the right fit.
Please message me if you think you might be a good match for Cowboy.
