Smoky – Sweet Bay Mare Looking for Her Person

Smoky is a late-teen bay mare with a kind heart and a lot of try. She came to us after spending a long time out in pasture, and over the past 5 months she’s been back in training and is progressing nicely.

She has a very sweet, willing demeanor and genuinely wants to please. Smoky enjoys having a job and is the type that will follow your lead and try new things with the right guidance. She has a comfortable walk, trot, and lope, making her enjoyable to ride.

We’ve also had her out on the trails, where she’s done really well. She rides confidently whether she’s in the front or the back and isn’t bothered about being left behind, which makes her a great partner outside the arena.

That said, we want to be upfront so she finds the right home:

She has a typical mare personality at times Can pull back if she feels scared or stuck, so she needs confident, patient handling Has a past injury on her left hind fetlock and can be difficult for the farrier to pick that foot up, though she does pick up all four feet Due to time off and rebuilding muscle, she may crossfire on the right lead behind occasionally

Smoky would do best with an intermediate+ rider who understands horses coming back into work and can continue building her confidence and strength.

With consistency, she has the potential to be a really nice partner for someone who appreciates a kind horse with a little personality.
