PayPal2005 Pegoretti Marcelo. 53 cm, top tube 54.3 cm. TIG welded Columbus Niobium Spirit tubing. Classic hooded dropouts yield a lot of snap in the rear end, and the geometry produces a responsive and lively ride. Stiffness without harshness, lightness without a hint of flimsiness. It is something spectacular.
Reynold Ouzo Pro carbon fork. Chris King headset, Thomsen Elite seat post, Selle San Marco Regal saddle. FSA stem and bars. No pedals. Campagnolo Record standard crankset, bottom bracket, brakes and Record carbon brake levers and derailleurs. Topolino carbon spoke wheels are the original wheels with this bike. New Continental 5000 clinchers and Deda bar tape.
We talked to Dario on the phone in 2004 and asked if he could put the Ayers Rock paint scheme on a Marcelo. He said call him back in a week so he could think about it because he created that paint scheme for the larger diameter aluminum tubes of the Fina Estampa frame. We called again and he said yes, and he added that this would be the only Marcelo with the Ayers Rock paint scheme. One of a kind. It was back in the days before Dario was diagnosed with cancer and he and his assistant were building about 200 frames a year. I had to wait seven months to get this gem. The bike was built up by Dave Montgomery at Rim Cyclery in Moab, Utah.
It was ridden, but I have many road bikes so none of them get a lot of miles. I included photos to show cable tubing mars, and small chips, but this bike was babied and is in excellent condition. It is ready to ride but would also be a unique addition to a collection. Never heard of a Pegoretti? Check out these links:
