Meet Obi 5 y/o fully titled BLM Mustang gelding 14.3 hh & stout built SANCTUARY/COMPANION/LIBERTY HOME ONLY NOT A PROJECT HORSE. NOT A RIDING HORSE. Located in Utah County, Utah Re-homing fee charged to ensure his safety. Great permanent home a must. DM with additional questions
Do you like fancy, fat, red lawn ornaments? Would you perhaps like a giant glorified dog that would be happy to learn some fun tricks in exchange for snacks? Would you like to befriend a living piece of Western history that will steal your hat, take your fencing tools and make any chore going on around him take twice as long and be three times more fun? If you answered "yes" to any of these, you'll love Obi.
The good; \
-Just gets trimmed, no shoes -Sound and healthy -LOVES people and attention -Has basic manners -UTD on shots/worming/feet - will need teeth floated in the fall -Very easy keeper -Leads and trailers -Fancy and fun in the round pen -Likes to go on walks and get out and about -Great potential as a liberty horse -Would adore a petting zoo style gig -Basically a big, friendly dog -Can be pastured with mares or gelding
The bad; Some direct quotes from my trainer; "This is the most psychologically broken horse I've ever seen. " "This is the most messed up horse I've ever had come through my program." "Even if we could get him under saddle he'll never be trustworthy."
In short, Obi has a very scrambled, unfixable brain. Multiple professional trainers have come to the same conclusion. The root issue is he's "wired wrong" and will never be able to handle pressure in the way a typical horse would. He'll never be a riding horse. Not for me, not for anyone. His reaction to attempts to saddle him are a "calm before the storm" and then a blow up bronc show that rivals what you'll see at the PBR. When he's like this he doesn't care about you, the fence, anything in his way, or himself.
If you want a fantastic, fancy, well moving liberty horse, he's your dude. If you want a glorified dog to grace your pasture and get fat on air, he's your guy. If you have a rehab program for teens or adults that's lead line only, he could be a great option. Obi is not a project horse and will never be a riding horse. This is a horse that needs a sanctuary/ non riding/pasture home only. Will rehome with a right of first refusal contract.
Feel free to DM me with any questions, I'm happy to elaborate.
