As the hand of hard providence continues to thin my herd, I find myself forced to part with a young horse of pure frontier grit, Marlboro. He is a 4-year-old BLM Mustang gelding, standing at a stout 14.5 hands in a handsome light bay coat.
Mustangs are known for their bone, foot, and endless "bottom," and Marlboro is the very picture of that wild heritage. He is a sure-footed mountain goat who can carry a man from dawn to dusk without losing his breath. Where a softer, domestic horse might falter in the rough country, this young gelding thrives. He will climb the steepest trails and ask for more.
He is but four years of age, and rides exactly as a young horse should. He is fundamentally honest under the saddle, though if the morning is crisp or he feels fresh, he might pitch a crow hop or two. I give you my word there is no mean, outlaw buck in him—he merely gets the youth out of his system and then settles right down to a hard day's work.
The Plain Truth of His Habits As any honest horseman should, I will tell you his faults plainly so there are no surprises between us:
Taking the Saddle: He is still fidgety and watchful of the cinch, so I currently hobble him to throw the saddle. Once he is tacked and the ride begins, he is all business. A Restless Spirit: He has a mind for wandering and possesses a Houdini-like talent for escaping. He requires stout, secure fences and a tight gate, lest he find the weak spot and let himself out.
He is not a mount for a tenderfoot or a greenhorn. I seek a seasoned hand who understands the mind of a wild-born horse and can give him the steady job he craves.
Asking Price: $6,000 Stationed in: Fountain Green, Utah
Serious folk only. A true horseman will find in him a tireless partner for the high country.
