The higher cost is driven by several key factors:

1. Large Physical Size and Material Volume

The XL12 series consists entirely of Silver & Deming (S&D) bits, which drill massive holes ranging from \(\frac{9}{16}\text{"}\) up to \(1\frac{1}{2}\text{"}\) in diameter. Manufacturing large-diameter bits requires a massive amount of premium, high-density High-Speed Steel (HSS) compared to small household bits.

2. Proprietary "NOMO" Surface Treatment

Instead of cheap titanium coatings that quickly rub off, Champion applies a proprietary NOMO (Nitride On Margin Only) treatment to the metal. This specialized treatment:
