Meet Fire, our approximately 14.3 HH, 8-year-old Mustang gelding.
Fire is a kind, willing, well-started horse who genuinely enjoys having a purpose and working with his rider. He has been handled and developed on the ground since he was a yearling and was started under saddle at approximately 4½ years old.
He continues to gain experience through consistent riding, arena work, trail riding, shows, and thoughtful exposure to new environments. Fire has a solid foundation and genuinely tries to do the right thing for his rider.
About Fire
• Approximately 14.3 HH at the withers
• Gentle, willing, and respectful
• Soft and responsive under saddle
• Easy to catch, handle, groom, and tack up
• Stands quietly while tied
• Loads and trailers well
• Trained using Clinton Anderson's Downunder Horsemanship Method
• Patient and forgiving of honest rider mistakes while appreciating clear, consistent communication
• Makes an honest effort even when he is unsure of the answer
• Looks to his rider for guidance and genuinely wants to do the right thing
• No history of rearing or kicking
• No history of bucking outside of one isolated training-related incident several years ago
Fire is not looking for someone to finish his training. He needs someone who will continue building on the solid foundation he already has through correct, consistent riding and handling.
Experience & Exposure
Fire has experience with:
• Trail riding – he has been out on multiple trails, but his confidence on the trail is still developing. He does best with a confident rider who can provide clear direction in unfamiliar situations
• Arena work
• Horse shows and show environments
• Multiple riding and boarding facilities
• Large and small dogs
• Children running, playing, and making noise
• A variety of unfamiliar environments and situations
Fire can occasionally be watchy in unfamiliar situations, but he is generally willing, sensible, and able to regain focus with clear, confident direction.
He tends to look to his rider when uncertain and gains confidence when the person working with him provides calm, consistent leadership.
Rider Fit
Fire is best suited for a confident rider with a secure, independent seat and a solid foundation in horsemanship.
Because he is still gaining experience, he needs someone who can ride independently, remain calm when something is unfamiliar, and provide clear, consistent communication.
The right rider should:
• Ride confidently and independently
• Have a secure seat and solid basic horsemanship skills
• Remain calm and effective in unfamiliar situations
• Enjoy building a partnership through consistency and good horsemanship
• Appreciate a willing, responsive horse who is continuing to gain experience
Fire is not being offered as a training project, but he is also not a finished, push-button horse. His lessee should be comfortable maintaining his current foundation while helping him continue gaining appropriate mileage and experience.
Anyone leasing Fire must also be willing to follow his established Downunder Horsemanship methods and cues. Prior DUH experience is not required, but willingness to learn and maintain consistency is.
Meet-and-Ride & Approval
A meet-and-ride is required before approval, and prospective lessees are welcome to schedule multiple rides before making a commitment.
I want anyone considering Fire to feel completely confident that he is the right horse for them and that they are comfortable with his current training and experience level before agreeing to anything.
All leases are subject to owner approval based on rider ability, horse-and-rider compatibility, safety, and Fire's well-being.
Lease Details
• $150/month Part-Lease OR $300/month Half-Lease
• Minimum 3-month initial commitment
• Riding time: Part-lessees divide the 3 weekly riding days between them, with 1 day per rider and the third day shared or used by either rider as mutually agreed upon; a half-lessee receives all 3 riding days per week
• Scheduling is coordinated through a group chat with all lessees and me, along with a shared calendar
• On-site riding at a private boarding facility with arena, round pen, and trail access
• A short ride from the property leads directly to the trailhead
• Food, water, and housing are included
• Additional shared vet, farrier, and supplement expenses vary depending on the lease option selected and are detailed in the lease contract
• Use your own tack or mine; outside tack must be checked for proper fit
Two Complimentary Lessons Included Each Month
The lease includes two complimentary one-hour lessons every month with me:
• One lesson per month is mandatory
• One additional lesson per month is optional
The required lesson helps maintain consistent and clear communication between Fire and each rider throughout the lease term.
It also gives me an opportunity to address questions or issues early, continue developing the horse-and-rider partnership, and make sure Fire's established cues and Downunder Horsemanship methods remain consistent between everyone working with him.
Trails, Shows & Off-Site Riding
Approved lessees may have opportunities to attend local shows, trail ride off-site, or participate in other approved outside activities.
Fire may be transported using my trailer for approved off-site trail rides, shows, or other activities. A minimum of 72 hours' notice is required when the trailer will be needed.
All activities are subject to my approval based on Fire's current training, health and conditioning, rider ability, and whether the activity is appropriate for that horse-and-rider combination.
Training Expectations
Fire's lessee is expected to maintain his current foundation, follow established handling and riding expectations, and communicate openly with me regarding questions or concerns.
He does best with someone who is fair, consistent, and willing to provide clear direction while allowing him to think and learn.
If you're looking for regular saddle time with a horse who is kind, honest, responsive, and genuinely wants to work with his rider, Fire offers the opportunity to build a rewarding partnership while continuing to add to the experience and foundation he already has.
📩 Please message me if you're seriously interested. I'm happy to answer questions, provide additional photos/videos and the full lease agreement for review, and arrange multiple rides before you make any commitment.
