VenmoLight mobility trailer for jeep and other small 4WD rigs (Landcruiser, Land Rover, Jeep etc.)
Started life as a 1948 Bantam T-3 trailer. This is the civilian version of the U.S. military M-416 trailer, with the major difference being a tailgate.
Purchased in 2014 as an equipment hauler for overland and archaeology trips in the Intermountain West. It was also used as a demonstration trailer at Overland Expo in Flagstaff for a number of years, and as such has some very cool features.
Design intent was to keep as light and versatile as possible so the tub was kept as is with structural reinforcement along the tub walls and floor and a primitive tailgate fabricated. And Mac’s Custom Tie-Downs versa track installed along the full length of the tub. New LED tail lights installed (12-24 volt) and wired for 70 series Land Cruiser. As it is it has hauled an assortment of camping gear, a river raft, mulch and yard debris. Very light and mobile with tons of anchor points.
As an off-road trailer it has the same tire size and wheelbase as the Toyota Land Cruiser that towed it in this case BFG KO 33x10.5r15 tires on American Racing wheels and a hub bolt pattern of 6x139.7 (60-70-80 series).
The trailer has an extending tongue with 2 positions: short for storage and long for stability, maneuvering and use of either rear tailgate of swinging rear door, very helpful when working the back of the vehicle with trailer attached. The currently installed hitch system is the Lock-n-Roll 3-axis articulating coupler.
Original 1948 fenders were long gone and replaced by flat top M-416 style fenders as they provide an additional work surface in the backcountry.
Curb weight: 590lb
Payload (combat): 500lb
Payload (civilian): 1000lb+
Extra bits:
Also included is a surplus rocket box, the kind river rafters use. In it is everything you need to use with the trailer. Extra hitch pin and locking pins, Rope, para cord, NRS straps of various lengths, Tie downs for the versa track (8-10) and versa track bolts (4) for mounting a jerry can rack.
Includes one custom made heavy duty vinyl tarp fitted to the trailer.
Also included is an old wooden frame and tarp to create a conestoga type enclosure. The tarp is old and needs to be replaced before heavy use but the patten will be helpful should you have a new one made.
Only selling because I’m now out of the country. This is a great little trailer for backcountry exploring.
Improvements:
$300 axel and hubs
$350 Hitch
$150 fenders
$150 aluminum rails
$100 attachment eyelets
$25 ammo box
$150 tarp
$100 spacers
$100 straps etc. in ammo box
