Due to a new honeybee venom allergy (anaphylaxis)I regretfully have to sell my hives. I have two young healthy hives. It has taken me all summer to make this difficult decision, and despite starting venom immunotherapy it does not seem I can ever maintain this hobby safely. Please do not offer me medical advice.
As a result I am selling my two hives and all associated equipment. This is a great option for someone wanting to get started to have some freshly established hives and Equipment at a steep discount.
Equipment includes used: Hive tools Medium supers Deep supers/brood box Bottom boards Queen excluders (plastic & metal ones) Inline feeders Smoker Hive tools Brushes Loose frames Mite count screen Green drone frame Queen cages for inspections And a lot of other random stuff
I also have NEW equipment: Two mediums and 20 medium frames New smoker New top board New screened bottom boad
Background on the hives: TLDR they're both swarms from early May that we caught from our overwintered hive. We ended up loosing our first hive to a laying worker.
Our single hive overwintered quite successfully. They swarmed twice in May and both times we were lucky enough to catch both swarms as we were home and they flew into our apple tree. The original hive never successfully re-queened and rejected the queens we bought them, after getting a laying worker we had to disassemble the original hive.
As a result...
The two remaining hives/ swarms did successfully requeen themselves (we tried to buy them queens but they killed them and made their own unmarked qieens) they and have been thriving all summer. This means they have spent all summer building up fresh wax and also have had a nice long brood break. We haven't harvest any honey from them. My husband had to manage the hives (since I no longer safely can) and he did apply an OA strip treatment in July as a precaution but with the swarm and brood break I suspect mite count is low. Unfortunately I could not be hands on with them and do a mite count myself.
Serious buyers can do an inspection of the hives with my husband and an up to date mite count before purchasing.
I'd prefer to sell them as a whole package deal with equipment and the colonies. However if there is enough interest for the equipment in it's own, I'd be willing to sell the hives separately too.
